Federico Altare (born in 1997) is a distinguished flutist, renowned for his versatility and mastery across a wide range of repertoires, from classical and baroque to contemporary music.
He began his training at the Conservatory of Novara, where he graduated with highest honors in 2016 under the guidance of Professor Biocotino. He continued his studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory, earning a Bachelor’s degree in 2020 under the tutelage of J. Hurel, J. Moulin, and W. Steinmann. In 2023, he completed his Master’s degree at the Paris Conservatory, receiving the prestigious “prix à l’unanimité avec les félicitations du jury” while studying under S. Cherrier, V. Lucas, and N. Rozat. He also earned a Bachelor’s degree in chamber music (in duo with Martin Jaspard), studying with Itamar Golan and Emanuelle Bertrand, and a diploma of merit from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena with P. Gallois. Federico has participated in masterclasses with world-renowned flutists such as A. Lieberkneckt, P. Taballione, E. Beynon, and D. Formisano.
Federico is currently enrolled in the prestigious DAI Soloist program at the Paris Conservatory, an elite training course reserved for only eight students of any instrument, equivalent to a doctoral degree. In parallel, he is completing a Bachelor’s degree in baroque flute at the Paris and Amsterdam Conservatories under the guidance of J. De Winne and A. Besson.
His orchestral career includes experience with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Academy (2018/2019) and participation in leading youth orchestras such as the National Jeugd Orkest (NJO), the European Youth Orchestra (EUYO), and the Verbier Festival Orchestra. He has collaborated with prominent orchestras and ensembles, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Noord Netherlands Orkest, Ensemble Le Balcon, and Ensemble Intercontemporain, where he served as principal flute. He has worked under the baton of esteemed conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Klaus Mäkelä, Simon Rattle, Antonio Pappano, Matthias Pintscher, and Pierre Bleuse.
As a soloist, Federico has performed with the Orchestre des Lauréats du Conservatoire (OLC) under the direction of P. Gallois, P.A. Valade, A. Léhon, and R. Rechetkine, in prestigious venues like the Cité de la Musique and the Philharmonie de Paris. In the field of baroque music, he has collaborated with world-renowned conductors such as Lionel Meunier and Jordi Savall.
He has been awarded scholarships from the De Sono Foundation and the Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument, and has competed in major international flute competitions such as the Nielsen Competition, the ARD, and the Geneva Competition. Currently, Federico is the artistic director of the Festival Florilège d’Été in Corseul, Brittany, and leads the baroque ensemble “Galanti Conversazioni”. In addition to specializing in contemporary and baroque music, Federico is engaged in various chamber music projects, electronic music, and transcriptions, continuously expanding the flute repertoire.
